Heartbreaking secret: Chinese couple’s repeated miscarriages unravel wife’s hidden sacrifice

A Chinese couple’s repeated miscarriages raised concerns and worries until the husband discovered that his wife had been secretly taking abortion pills to protect the feelings of her 8 year old stepdaughter, who did not want a new brother or sister.

The 30 year old man from Zhenjiang, Hefei, married a woman three years older than him. He faced emotional distress over repeated miscarriages in their family. Despite the four miscarriages within five years of being together, their normal health conditions left doctors puzzled. When his wife became pregnant for the fifth time, Chen, her husband, installed a hidden camera in their bedroom, revealing unexpected truths.

The footage revealed that his wife had secretly taken unidentified medication he had not seen before. Upon further investigation, he discovered the pills were, in fact, abortion pills. Confused and upset, Chen confronted his wife, who tearfully admitted the truth behind her actions.

It turned out that Chen has a daughter, now 8 years old, from a previous marriage and had been granted custody following the divorce. Although his current wife acted as a caring stepmother, she too wanted a child of her own with Chen. However, when she asked her stepdaughter if she wanted a sibling, the girl unexpectedly replied…

“I don’t want a brother or sister.”

The response deeply affected Chen’s wife, and she decided not to have any more children. She secretly took abortion pills with each pregnancy to avoid causing her stepdaughter’s distress.

Upon learning the truth behind his wife’s actions, Chen accepted her in gratitude for her sacrifice in prioritising the comfort and happiness of his daughter. He expressed hope that, over time, his daughter would come to accept and appreciate having a half-sibling.
