Thai woman criticised for crashing car into schoolboy, blames victim (video)
Police officers in the northern province of Chiang Mai are on the hunt for a female driver who crashed her sedan into a 10 year old schoolboy, subsequently blamed the young victim, and shirked all responsibility for his injuries.
The 30 year old Thai woman, A, came forward to seek justice for the 10 year old schoolboy by sharing CCTV footage of the accident, which occurred on the narrow Thanutphong Road near Nong Praklang School in Chiang Mai.
A said she did not take the boy to hospital at that time as he claimed he was fine. However, the boy was later admitted to hospital due to stomach pain and numbness in the lower part of his body. After learning about his hospitalisation, A decided to share the accident footage to demand that the driver take responsibility.
In the video, the victim and his friend were seen walking on the left side of the road. A sedan suddenly hit one of them, causing the victim to collapse onto the roadside. The sedan did not stop after the crash and disappeared from the CCTV view.
According to a worker at a car accessory store at the scene, the incident took place at about 4pm on September 25. The female driver later parked her car away from the scene and walked back to the victim. She accused the boys of walking recklessly and playing with each other, which she claimed caused the accident.
The worker said the woman then returned to her car and left the scene without providing any assistance to the young boy. The worker also insisted that the two boys tried their best to avoid the accident by walking closely to the roadside, and they were not playing with each other as the driver had alleged.
Following the evidence shared on social media, the boy’s mother filed a complaint against the driver at Mae Ping Police Station on September 29. She told ThaiRath that she had not initially known the details or severity of the crash until seeing the footage.
The mother said she took her son to hospital, where his condition is stable, though he is required to stay for close monitoring.
Police emphasised that they successfully identified the female driver and will summon her to the police station soon.
