A Thai monk turned himself in at Phe Police Station in the eastern province of Rayong after the brutal murder of his ex-girlfriend after she broke up with him. The unhinged monk also killed his girlfriend’s friend for supporting their separation.

The 36 year old perpetrator, Sumate, surrendered to police today, August 19, for the murders of the two Thai women, Maytawee and Prawmanee. Sumate confessed that he entered the monkhood a month ago and had not yet left the confinement at the time of the crime.

The abbot of the temple, Winaithorn Boonpa Ajaro, told PPTV HD that Sumate disappeared from the temple at about 10pm on Saturday, August 17. He and other monks searched for him and later learned of his criminal actions today.

The brutal murders of the two women came to light on August 18 at about 11.30am. A CCTV camera outside a house in the Klang district of Rayong captured Sumate, wearing a red shirt, arriving at the scene in his silver-bronze SUV. He parked the car behind the victims’ vehicle, a white SUV, and got out.

Sumate immediately shot through the window of the white SUV, killing the driver, Maytawee, in front of her three year old child. He then ordered his ex-girlfriend Prawmanee to get out of the same vehicle and get into his car.

Police conducted further investigations to track down Sumate to find Prawmanee. Unfortunately, officers later found Prawmanee’s lifeless body in Sumate’s car, which was abandoned 1 kilometre from the scene.

Prawmanee was lying in the back seat with a gunshot wound to her head and scratches on her arms and legs. Sumate was not present at the scene but later turned himself in today.

Sumate admitted to the murders of the two women. He explained that he was angry because Prawmanee left their shared home to live with her friend, Maytawee, and was further enraged because Maytawee encouraged her to break up with him. Sumate also admitted that he physically assaulted Prawmanee multiple times during their relationship.

Prawmanee’s mother, 54 year old Wanthip, told PPTV HD that Sumate threatened to kill her daughter and the whole family many times before.

Wanthip revealed that she would submit a request to deny Sumate bail and would never forgive him for what he had done.
