Thai man and 2 children saved after murder-suicide attempt
A Thai father and his two children survived after drinking a soft drink mixed with pesticide in the man’s murder-suicide attempt driven by jealousy.
A Thai woman working in Malaysia sought help from her sister-in-law after her husband, 36 year old Somyot, sent pictures of himself physically assaulting their nine year old daughter and seven year old son. The sister-in-law reported the matter to Khlong Luang Police Station officers, who rushed to the scene.
Upon arrival, police discovered Somyot and his children struggling in their room on the fourth floor of an apartment in the Khlong Luang district of Pathum Thani province, near Bangkok.
Somyot was lying in a bathroom. The seven year old boy was conscious, while his older sister lay unconscious on the floor. Several items were scattered on the floor, including a red soft drink and a packet of pesticide.
The three victims were rushed to Phatara-Thonburi Hospital. All of them are now safe but details of their health conditions have not been revealed.
The sister-in-law’s husband, Big, told Channel 7 that Somyot’s wife worked in Malaysia and sent money to Somyot and their children every month. However, Somyot wanted his wife to return home. He pressured her to return to Thailand and threatened to take his own life if she refused.
Murder-suicide
On the day of the incident, Somyot threatened to commit murder-suicide if his wife did not comply with his request. He then sent the pictures to his wife assaulting the two children.
Police have yet to report on their findings and what charges the Thai father faces.
In a similar incident, a Thai woman committed a murder-suicide at her home in the central province of Kanchanaburi. She survived the attempt but her six year old disabled granddaughter did not.
The woman killed her granddaughter and attempted to hang herself but the rope broke. She tried again, but her husband intervened in time and rushed her to the hospital.
Another murder-suicide case was reported in the Isaan province of Khon Kaen, where a school director killed his ex-wife, her new husband, her mother-in-law, and her relative before taking his own life in his car. The murderer and his ex-wife reportedly fought over the ownership of their previously shared home.
