Teenage Thai girl stabs grandmother to death after repeated insults
A 14 year old Thai girl stabbed her grandmother to death in a rented room in the Bang Bon district of Bangkok, following repeated insults from the victim.
Officers from Samae Dam Police Station, along with a rescue team, were called to the rented room near Bang Bon Temple in the Bang Bon district to investigate the death of 48 year old Rattanaporn. She was found lying lifeless with multiple stab wounds to her body.
Rattanaporn’s 67 year old husband informed the police that the perpetrator was their 14 year old granddaughter, who fled the scene after the crime. He stated that his wife often insulted and complained about the girl, especially when she was drunk.
The husband added that Rattanaporn was an alcoholic, leading to frequent arguments with the girl, almost every day.
Police revealed to Channel 7 that the girl later surrendered to the police on the day of the incident but refused to speak about the fatal stabbing.
Reports indicate that a girl and her nine year old brother were abandoned by their parents, who left the children in the care of Rattanaporn and have not been in contact since.
Rattanaporn allegedly argued with the children regularly and insulted them, referring to them as abandoned orphans. Police believe that these persistent arguments and derogatory remarks may have contributed to the girl’s decision to commit the crime.
The family’s neighbour, Jannapha, told Channel 7 that she had heard Rattanaporn arguing with her grandchildren many times. She had previously spoken with the girl and found her to be a lovely child who wanted to study. However, the family could not afford her education, so she had to leave school when she was 12 years old.
Jannapha agreed with the police that the complaints and insults could have been the motive behind this tragic murder.
In a related incident in May, a 15 year old Thai boy fatally stabbed his uncle in a rented room in Phuket. The motive behind the murder was similar to the recent case, as the boy and his uncle frequently argued.
Additionally, the young suspect reportedly suffered from attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), which contributed to his impulsive actions.
Another similar case was reported at the beginning of this month when a 47 year old man attacked his grandmother with a hoe and knife in the Isaan province of Bueng Kan. The motive behind this attack has not been revealed to the public.
