Teen gunman arrested for shooting 15 year old girl on Pathum Thani road

Hostile stare and middle finger trigger life-threatening attack

Police arrested a teen gunman for shooting a 15 year old girl on a road in the central province of Pathum Thani, allegedly following a conflict with her male friend.

Officers from Kukot Police Station were alerted to the shooting at about 4.30pm on Friday, August 22. The incident took place in Soi Samun Rattanakhon, Lat Sawai sub-district, Lam Luk Ka district, Pathum Thani. Rescuers had already transported the victim to the hospital by the time police arrived.

The 15 year old girl sustained a gunshot wound to the back of her neck and was reported to be in critical condition. She had been travelling on a motorcycle driven by her male friend when the suspect opened fire. A .38 calibre bullet shell was found at the scene.

The victim’s friend told police the gunman was a teenage boy wearing a motorcycle helmet, a T-shirt, and shorts. He and the victim were riding with friends on a separate motorcycle when the gunman followed them and opened fire. The bullet missed him but struck the girl.

Officers reviewed security camera footage and managed to track down and arrest the teenage suspect, identified as 16 year old Kong, at a resort in Soi Sukhumvit-Pattaya 33 in Bang Lamung district, Pattaya, later in the day. He fled there to meet his mother. Police also confiscated the motorcycle used in the crime.

Kong confessed to police that he and the victim’s male friend rode motorcycles past each other earlier and exchanged middle fingers after staring each other down.

This angered Kong, prompting him to return to the scene to wait for the victim’s group. He admitted to shooting at them, discarding the gun in a canal in the Khlong Jed area of Pathum Thani before fleeing to Pattaya.

Currently, police are awaiting confirmation of the severity of the victim’s injuries before concluding the case.
