SUV crushed between 2 trucks causes 8 deaths, 3 injuries

In a heart-wrenching accident, eight lives, including those of young children, were tragically cut short when a colossal 22-wheel truck slammed into a parked SUV and another lorry in an emergency parling area. The crash, which left three others injured, occurred on a motorway heading towards Chon Buri province.
Officials from the Phranakhon Radio Centre were alerted to the fatal accident at around 10pm last night, April 24, on Motorway Number 7 in the Bang Sao Thong district of Samut Prakan province. The collision involved three vehicles: an SUV and two 22-wheel trucks.
The truck driver, later identified as 60 year old Sanae, crashed his vehicle into the SUV and another truck, both of which were parked in the emergency area. The SUV, a white Chevrolet Captiva, sustained the most damage, as it was sandwiched between the two trucks.
Another lorry driver, 51 year old Kwangkaew, informed highway police and rescuers that he and his wife had travelled from the southern province of Chum Phon to deliver oil to the central province of Prachin Buri.
Kwangkaew said he had parked in the emergency zone to have dinner. However, the accident occurred only five minutes after parking, before they had begun eating.

Rescuer, Jade Sookklin, reported that he and his team found two injured girls from the SUV outside the vehicle. The girls informed them that their family were travelling from Bangkok to the eastern province of Rayong.
The family had stopped in the emergency area to change an infant’s nappy. The two girls had just finished changing the nappy and were about to return to the car when the incident occurred.

The rescue team had to use metal-cutting equipment to extricate the victims from the SUV. Eight people were pronounced dead at the scene, including the male driver, four women, two girls, and one boy. The children who died were aged between two and ten years old.

Rescuers also found human organ parts inside the SUV and transferred them to the Chakri Naruebodindra Medical Institute in Samut Prakan province for identification purposes.
The three people injured in the crash were the two girls from the SUV and the truck driver, Sanae.
Police officers are reviewing CCTV footage from the scene to determine the cause of the accident and will question Sanae once his condition improves.
