Suicidal Thai man goes ghost hunting to seek advice on afterlife
A suicidal Thai man with a death wish embarked on a ghost hunt, hoping for some heavenly advice on whether the spiritual world is more comfortable than living in the material world.
The 55 year old ghost hunter rode his motorbike from Chon Buri to the eerily famous Bang Pakong River Bridge in Chachoengsao province, determined to find out if those on the other side have it better.
After parking his black Honda Wave in the middle of the bridge and downing a beer, the unnamed man made his way to the railing and began shouting into the night.
“I want to see a ghost. I want to ask if being a ghost is comfortable.”
Local villagers, startled by his eerie cries, dialled the mayor for some urgent intervention.
In the wee hours, precisely 3.30am on November 15, Mayor Somjit Phansuwan got the call about a commotion on the bridge along Theparat Road. Armed with determination and accompanied by the Chachoengsao Rescue Unit and local police, Mayor Somjit arrived at the scene to find nothing but an abandoned motorbike, an empty beer bottle, and some shoes, all left behind as clues to a ghostly night gone wrong.
To their relief, they spotted the man perched precariously on the raw water pipe, ready to leap into the abyss below. Quick-thinking villagers assembled boats nearby, poised to spring into action.
With an intense exchange, the man pleaded with the villages to leave him alone.
“Don’t bother me. I’m stressed and want to come and talk to the ghost in the red dress on the bridge. I’ve heard many people have seen him. I just wanted to ask if that ghost was okay.”
His midnight ride from Chon Buri had been in vain, with not a single spectre making an appearance, only people coming to his rescue instead.
Channel 7 reported that after 30 tense minutes, the situation took a turn for the better. The man, distraught over financial woes and feeling isolated, had initially set out with a death wish.
He believed that becoming a ghost on the Bang Pakong River Bridge might bring him more peace than his current life. But as spirits gave way to reason, he finally came to his senses and decided to head back home to Chon Buri on his trusted motorcycle.
An extraordinary ghost hunt turned rescue mission, proving that sometimes it’s the flesh and blood connections that truly matter.
