Roses lead, condoms surge: Grab reveals 5 best-selling products on Valentine’s Day

Grab Thailand unveiled its top five best-selling products during the Valentine’s Day festival with roses remaining the champion while condoms, although not in the top five, saw a 30% surge in sales.

One of Thailand’s most popular superapps, Grab, gathered statistics from GrabMart users starting from February 1 before releasing a list of Thailand’s best-selling products on its application. The five best-selling products include flower bouquets, various types of gifts, chocolates, beauty products, and worship sets with garlands.

According to Grab’s report, flower bouquets have consistently dominated sales when February comes. The most popular flower is none other than roses.

Not only did the sale of the roses increase but also their prices. A rose sells for about 8-12 baht each throughout the year, but the price can jump to more than 60 baht each during Valentine’s week. Sunflowers seem to be gaining in popularity in Thailand and their prices increased slightly during Valentine’s Day.

As well as expressing love to loved ones, Valentine’s Day is also a time for couples to exchange presents, with a variety of gifts, chocolates and beauty products making the list.

The most surprising product on this list is the worship set and garlands. Aside from dating applications, some singles turn to supernatural powers in their quest for the perfect match. So, worship sets and garlands are crucial elements for praying and pleasing the gods to fulfil their wishes.

Although condoms did not sell enough on the application to win a ranking place, Grab reported that the sales increased by 30% between February 1 and 14 compared to other periods.

In another Grab report released in August last year, 1,500 condoms were ordered daily from 10pm to 5am. Other items ordered by users at night included lubricants, sanitary pads, lens cleaning solutions, energy drinks and drinking water.

To help its users celebrate Valentine’s Day, Grab is offering a special promotion, GrabMart Delivery in 25 Minutes, with a special code, VDAY, for up to 25% discount on purchases of at least 600 baht.
