Japanese student’s provocative photobook creates uproar after school controversy

The renowned Japanese high school student who made headlines earlier this year after being suspended and pressured to quit school for accepting modelling work for an underwear brand has since left her school and enrolled in a more understanding institution. The school had argued that the student, Shimaki, breached rules prohibiting students from having part-time jobs, and it was deemed immoral.

Shortly after her transfer, Shimaki created another uproar by releasing a provocative photobook, which was a lucrative venture. It seemed to be a direct jab at her former school which had forced her to quit.

Shimaki’s story has been heavily critiqued from various perspectives since it began. The majority sympathised with her, arguing that she did nothing wrong, nor did she engage in illegal activities or prostitution. They believed the school was too harsh, which led to her gravure-style photobook becoming a bestseller and her social media following skyrocketing into the hundreds of thousands.

However, recent backlash has followed Shimaki’s post celebrating her 18th birthday, featuring her in a suggestive bikini outfit. Several comments questioned whether Shimaki had definitively chosen this path and noted that she no longer resembled the innocent student they once perceived her to be, reported Sanook.
