Fallen tree kills one, injures another in Rayong rainstorm

A violent rainstorm caused a tree to fall onto a pickup truck, resulting in one fatality and one severe injury. Yesterday, September 18, police in Klaeng, Rayong province, were alerted to an incident involving a fallen tree that crushed a pickup truck on Route 344 near kilometre marker 89, heading towards Chon Buri province.

Police, along with medical personnel from Klaeng Hospital and rescue teams from the Buddhist Relief Foundation, rushed to the scene. Upon arrival, they found a large tree had fallen onto a red Isuzu pickup truck, completely crushing the vehicle.

The driver, a 67 year old man, was found deceased with a severely crushed head. His wife, who was in the front passenger seat, sustained critical injuries and was quickly transported to Klaeng Hospital for emergency treatment.

The investigation revealed that the couple had been returning from a relative’s funeral in Paknam Prasae, Klaeng district. As they were driving home, the area was hit by a sudden and intense rainstorm with strong winds. The force of the storm caused the large roadside tree to snap and fall onto their vehicle, reported KhaoSod.

Police promptly began clearing the fallen tree from the roadway to alleviate the traffic congestion caused by the incident. The deceased man’s body was also transported to the hospital. Traffic flow resumed once the obstruction was removed, and the police continued their investigation into the accident.

A lifelong local, 55 year old Boorachai expressed he had never witnessed such severe weather in his lifetime.

As the storm raged through the region, residents of the Ban Fang district of Sakhrai scrambled to secure their belongings but many were unsuccessful. The violent winds tore away zinc roofs from several houses, leaving the community in distress.
