Car accident or theft linked to dead body found in eastern Thailand

Thai workers yesterday discovered the lifeless body of a Thai man on a roadside forest in Chon Buri. It is suspected that he was killed in a car accident.
The 44 year old Thai man, Weerapong, called Huay Yai Police Station to investigate the decomposed body in the forest on the side of Highway 331 (Sattahip-Chachoengsao) at 11am yesterday, March 4. The area was covered with river tamarind trees.
Weerapong told police that he and his colleagues were hired to remove tree branches that were hanging on cables.
“My colleagues ventured deeper into the forest in search of recyclable materials and stumbled upon the body.”
According to a report from Channel 8, the bloated body was covered with sacks and plastic bags. The man is believed to have died about three to four days before the discovery and began to be eaten by maggots.
He was wearing long jeans and white trainers and still had a backpack on. His back bore signs of being dragged on the ground as well.
Police searched the backpack and found his documents. The ID card identified him as 54 year old Watchara, a resident of the Pak Tor district in the central province of Ratchaburi.
A debit card and a note with the numbers of his wife and daughter were found in the bag. There has been no report of whether the officers have contacted his wife and daughter.

Recent accident and theft
Nearby the body, a pile of electricity wires was found. All of the copper wires were removed. Police suspect that the electricity wire thief stole the wires and sold the copper.
Officers also suspect that Watchara may have been involved in the theft, although this assumption has not yet been confirmed. Watchara’s body was transferred to a hospital for an autopsy to determine the cause of death.

Another theory regarding Watchara’s death is related to a car accident reported at about 2am on March 2. The accident occurred around 200 metres from where the body was found.
Police believe that the driver may have killed Watchara and left his body at the scene to avoid legal consequences.
Nevertheless, officers will check CCTV cameras at the scene and in the surrounding area to track down Watchara and any people involved in his death.

Locals in the northern province of Tak made another shocking discovery on February 27.
The fully decomposed body was stuffed into a green fertiliser bag. The body is suspected to belong to a teenage girl aged between 12 and 13, based on her height and the school T-shirt she was wearing.
Unfortunately, police officers have not yet been able to identify the person or determine the cause of her death.
