Three Thai exchange students accused a Filipina host in Ireland of racism, claiming she treated them unfairly and complained about them without reason, despite their weekly payment for accommodation.

One of the students took to her TikTok account, @ekongza, to share a video of them moving out of their host’s home in Ireland, with a caption that read…

“We are exchange students and encountered a psycho host who looked down on us, bullied us, threatened us in many ways, and complained about everything. We decided to pack up and move out. Let the police handle this case. Thai people will never let anyone hurt them!”

The video garnered attention from Thai TikTok users, prompting the three students to upload another video to share their full story.

They explained that they had arranged their stay in Ireland independently and found the host, a Filipina woman aged around 43, online. Initially, she preferred to accommodate only a male student but she eventually agreed when a transgender student and a female student requested to stay with their male friend.

However, according to the Thai students, the host’s treatment of the transwoman and the woman was completely different from that of the man.

Unreasonable rules

From their first conversation, they sensed something was off. The host allegedly spoke disparagingly about her home country, stating that she had moved to Italy at 18 to study and would never return to the Philippines.

Their suspicions were confirmed when the host began to behave in a racist manner towards them.

The Filipina host imposed multiple unreasonable rules, such as banning them from showering daily, prohibiting bathroom use after 11pm, and turning off the staircase light, which caused one of them to fall.

These rules were introduced only after their arrival and they had never agreed to them beforehand. Nevertheless, the students tried their best to comply, as they wanted to focus on their studies.

Beyond the rules, the host reportedly blamed them for making a mess, even though it was her boyfriend who dirtied the accommodation.

She also criticised them over trivial matters, such as how they folded their blankets, insisting that they make their beds as if they were hotel staff. Additionally, she complained about their use of the kitchen and dining table.

Last straw

The host allegedly belittled their English skills, claiming they could not understand her. The Thai students admitted that they were not fluent speakers but insisted they could understand everything she said, including bad remarks she made about them to her friends over the phone.

Their male friend, however, rarely faced any mistreatment, as the host seemed to favour male exchange students.

On the day they moved out, the host allegedly screamed complaints in their faces one by one for no reason, even when one of them was on a video call with family. This was the final straw, prompting them to leave.

The students have reported the matter to their university and the police to have the woman banned from hosting exchange students in the future. They are currently staying at their university professor’s house temporarily while they search for new accommodation.
