Police in Bangkok arrested a 46 year old taxi driver accused of stealing from passengers who were intoxicated and abandoning them en route. The arrest followed the attachment of a GPS tracker to his vehicle.
The driver, Sawat was apprehended yesterday, February 12, in Soi Chok Chai 4, Soi 69, Lat Phrao district, Bangkok, acting under a warrant from the Criminal Court issued on February 7.
The charges include theft using a vehicle to facilitate the crime or escape capture.
The arrest was ordered by Police Lieutenant General Siam Boonsom, Metropolitan Police Bureau Commissioner, with assistance from Deputy Commissioner Police Major General Nopasilp Poolsawat.
The operation was conducted by various officials from Chok Chai Police Station, including Police Colonel Setthaphan Srisakorn and his team.

The investigation began after a complaint was filed on December 21, 2024, by a victim who reported the theft of two iPhones.
The victim had taken a green-yellow taxi without a license plate, later identified as belonging to Sawat, registration มฏ 9712 Bangkok. A warrant was subsequently issued leading to the GPS tracking and arrest.
Sawat reportedly targeted intoxicated people, stealing their valuables and mobile phones while they were unaware, before abandoning them before reaching their destination. The stolen money was allegedly used to support his family, which includes more than one wife, reported KhaoSod.
Victims who believe they have been targeted by Sawat are encouraged to provide additional evidence at Chok Chai Police Station. Currently, Sawat and the confiscated items have been handed over to investigators at Chok Chai Police Station for legal proceedings.
In similar news, a 45 year old Thai man was apprehended by the police on February 8 for allegedly climbing into homes and committing theft for personal gain.
