Thailand hit by cold snaps up north and storms down south

A cold snap and stormy weather are sweeping across Thailand, bringing temperature drops in the north and heavy rain in the south, as officials warn of changing conditions.

The Thai Meteorological Department (TMD) has issued its latest forecast, warning of a 1 to 2°C dip in temperatures across northern and northeastern Thailand due to a moderate high-pressure system blowing in from China. The cool spell, accompanied by gusty winds, will be felt from the upper north to the South China Sea.

In the northeast, residents can expect cool mornings and strong breezes. Temperatures are forecast to range between 17 to 22°C, with highs reaching 27 to 31°C. On mountain tops, the mercury could fall as low as 10°C. Winds will blow from the northeast at speeds of 10 to 35 km/h.

Northern Thailand will also see a drop in temperature, with morning chills and isolated thundershowers expected in provinces such as Lampang, Sukhothai, and Phitsanulok. Lows will range from 19 to 24°C, while highs will hit between 30 and 34°C. Mountainous areas will see colder conditions, dipping to 9°C in some spots. Winds will remain light at 10 to 15 km/h.
