The Meteorological Department of Thailand (TMD) forecasted increased rainfall and potential flash floods over the next ten days, urging vigilance from residents in the Land of Smiles.

The TMD released its updated ten-day rainfall accumulation forecast, predicting increased rainfall and potential flash floods from today to ten days ahead. This forecast, based on data from the European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts (ECMWF), indicates varying levels of rainfall across different regions in Thailand.

From today to tomorrow, August 14, the forecast predicts moderate monsoon activity with a monsoon trough extending over northern Thailand and a low-pressure area covering Vietnam. This combination is expected to bring increased rainfall and isolated heavy showers to northern and northeastern Thailand. Residents in these areas are advised to be on alert for heavy rainfall, flash floods, and forest runoff.

In contrast, the lower northern regions, western parts of the northeastern region, and the central region, including Bangkok and its surrounding areas, may experience less widespread rainfall. Most of these areas are expected to receive light to moderate showers. However, continuous monitoring is recommended as these regions are still in the midst of the rainy season.

From tomorrow until the end of the forecast period, rainfall across Thailand is expected to increase. While most of the rain will be light to moderate, heavy showers are anticipated mainly in the upper northern and northeastern regions, particularly those areas affected by the monsoon. Although no signs of tropical cyclone formation near Thailand have been detected during this period, residents should remain vigilant, said the TMD.

“We are observing an increase in rainfall due to the moderate monsoon and low-pressure systems. People in the affected areas must stay informed and prepared for potential flash floods and runoff.”

The forecast serves as a guideline for weather conditions but should be considered alongside other TMD data. Weather conditions can change, so staying updated with the latest information is essential.

The next ten days will see varying rainfall levels across Thailand, with heavier showers expected in the upper northern and northeastern regions. While the central and lower northern areas may experience less intense rainfall, vigilance is still necessary due to the ongoing rainy season.

No tropical cyclones are currently expected to form near Thailand, but continuous monitoring and preparedness are advised.
