The Ministry of Finance announced the release of a commemorative 100 baht banknote to mark its 150th anniversary. The note, which can legally be used for transactions, will be issued on April 14.

The announcement was published on the Royal Gazette’s website, detailing the characteristics, colour, and size of the commemorative note.

Signed by Pichai Chunhavajira, the finance minister, the announcement specifies that the Bank of Thailand will be responsible for issuing the 100 baht commemorative banknote in recognition of the ministry’s establishment anniversary.

The finance minister, exercising authority under Section 14, Clause 2, of the Currency Act of 1958, described the features of the commemorative note.

It will retain the same characteristics, colour, and dimensions as existing 100 baht notes introduced on June 28, 2018. However, the new note will feature the inscription 150 Years Ministry of Finance April 14, 2025 in red on the lower front edge. Notably, the existing 100 baht notes will remain valid for transactions.

Ministry of Finance Permanent Secretary Lavaron Sangsnit highlighted the 150th anniversary as a significant occasion for the ministry’s personnel to unite in showcasing their creativity and social responsibility.

The anniversary celebration will take place at the ministry’s 150-year building and at the Queen Sirikit National Convention Centre. The event will follow the theme Past-Present-Future, highlighting the ministry’s historical significance and its role in fostering national prosperity over 15 decades.

The event will provide an opportunity for the public to explore the Ministry of Finance’s evolution, from its historical roots to its current efforts in securing Thailand’s economic stability and future sustainability.

In collaboration with the Treasury Department and the Bank of Thailand, the ministry will also release a commemorative 50 baht coin and the 100 baht banknote, symbolising the 150th anniversary with a combined value of 150, reported KhaoSod.

In July last year, the Bank of Thailand unveiled a special 100-baht commemorative banknote to celebrate His Majesty the King’s 72nd birthday on July 28. Available from July 23, the note featured a unique portrait layout, a first for Thai currency.

Printed on durable polymer using advanced technology, it enhanced security and longevity. Alongside the release, two million pamphlets were printed, each priced at 10 baht, with proceeds directed to His Majesty King Vajiralongkorn.

The announcement sparked excitement among collectors and royal enthusiasts, with demand for these limited-edition notes expected to be high.
