Green Day banned from Las Vegas radio after Armstrong’s rant

Las Vegas radio bans Green Day after Armstrong's critical remarks

Green Day has been blacklisted from two Las Vegas radio stations after frontman Billie Joe Armstrong criticised the city. During a performance at San Francisco’s Oracle Park on September 20, Armstrong expressed his displeasure about the Oakland A’s relocation to Las Vegas. The band’s lead singer targeted John Fisher, the owner of the Oakland A’s, saying, “We don’t take no s**t from people like John f**king Fisher who sold out the Oakland A’s to Las f**king Vegas. I hate Las Vegas. It’s the worst s**thole in America.”

John Fisher, previously part-owner of the San Francisco Giants, has owned the Oakland A’s since 2005. When the team’s move to Las Vegas was announced earlier this year, fans reportedly shouted ‘f**k John Fisher’ at the A’s final game in Oakland.

In reaction to Armstrong’s remarks, two Las Vegas radio stations have dropped Green Day’s music from their rotations. KOMP 92.3 posted on Instagram, stating they had removed all Green Day tracks from their playlist, adding, “It’s not us, Billie…it’s you. #vegas4ever.”

X 107.5 also announced a ban on Green Day music on their website, stating, “Sin City heard him loud and clear — and X 107.5 is not having it. In response to Armstrong’s inflammatory comments, the station is banning all Green Day music, effective immediately.”

The station further commented on its surprise, given Armstrong’s recent pop-up show at Fremont Country Club, which they described as spectacular. They noted, “But now, Armstrong has crossed a line with Las Vegas locals.”

Armstrong and his bandmates have not yet addressed the radio stations’ actions. However, the singer shared a tribute to the Oakland A’s on Instagram earlier this week, lamenting the team’s departure. He wrote, “The athletics leaving Oakland is devastating. I feel for all the fans and the people that will lose their jobs because of greed.”

He added, “3 sports teams have left Oakland in the past 5 years, leaving a cultural hole in the east bay hearts and sport. I DO believe that Oakland will come back from this. This one hurts.”

Green Day is currently on their North American tour.
