A teenager wielding a toy gun was shot in Philadelphia on Sunday night after allegedly attempting to rob a man carrying a loaded firearm.
Around 11 p.m. on Sunday, a 16-year-old and another suspect approached a man and his girlfriend on the 2200 block of Emerald Street.
Police reported one suspect pressed a weapon into the man’s back and demanded keys, a wallet, and other valuables.
The man, who possessed a legal firearm, fired at the suspects, hitting the 16-year-old in the leg, police stated. The investigation later revealed that the teenager’s weapon was a toy gun, which was recovered at the scene.
Inspector DF Pace of the Philadelphia Police mentioned there was no way for the suspects to know the weapon in the man’s back was a toy.
The victim was not injured. The teenager shot in the leg was taken to a hospital for treatment while in police custody. Authorities are still searching for the second suspect.
