A 77 year old woman’s carer was exposed for theft after her daughter secretly installed a camera in her bedroom. The incident took place in a family home in Plymouth, a city in the southwest of England. The carer’s disgraceful conduct was uncovered when the daughter saw her stealing money from her mother’s purse.

The elderly woman, in her declining health, was unable to care for herself as she once could, leading to the family hiring a carer. However, money from the woman’s purse began to disappear at an increasing rate, prompting the family to hatch a plan to catch the thief.

The daughter discreetly installed a CCTV camera in her mother’s bedroom, leading to the immediate identification of the culprit. The footage showed the carer entering the bedroom, opening the purse, and taking the money while cleaning the house. The daughter confronted the elderly care worker, who, faced with the evidence, confessed and returned all the stolen funds.

“The money had been missing multiple times, but we weren’t sure who took it. My mother relies on her carer for daily activities and has many visitors every day. That’s why I decided to hide a camera in her bedroom. Seeing the footage was shocking. Even though we had suspected this carer all along, we could hardly believe what we were seeing.”

The 77 year old woman’s daughter added that the carer was extremely embarrassed, apologised, and returned the money. However, she believes that this individual should be prosecuted for her actions and never be allowed to work with patients or elderly people again, reported Sanook. She has reported the matter to the Devon and Cornwall Police.

“I’m worried that this will happen again because there are many sick elderly people who rely on carers, and these people have the freedom to move around the house. We were lucky this time, but there are probably many other cases where people are not so fortunate.”
