Phuket 62% vaccinated, Sandbox ready to play in, hopefully
The government has “confirmed” that Phuket is 62% vaccinated. Further, they indicate that they are ready to go ahead with the Phuket Sandbox reopening. This would let limited quarantine-free tourism to fully vaccinated international visitors. The government says Phuket’s vaccine rollout is picking up momentum
From a report posted by NNT yesterday:
“Phuket province is now just steps away from vaccinating 70% of its population, a target set to enable a safe reopening of the island province to international visitors”.
The report went on to add:
“62.05% of the local population have already received the first jabs of COVID-19 vaccine, with 165,031 people or 30.14% the population fully vaccinated with both doses. The province must fully vaccinate another 218,277 people to achieve the 70% of population threshold”.
For those who might be planning on travelling to Phuket in the next 2 weeks:
“There are now around 300 SHA+ hotels in Phuket, ready for the province’s reopening”.
Phuket’s vice governor Pichet Panapong expressed his confidence to the government that the Province is prepared for the Sandbox scheme. Accommodation, the healthcare system, disease screening, you name it.
Next week, Thailand’s PM, Prayut Chan-o-cha, will travel to Phuket and verify these claims.
Yesterday, the Thaiger reported that officials had stated Phuket was over 70% vaccinated, a significant drop from the new figure. There was no mention of this discrepancy of 10%
