Inaugural Laguna Phuket Junior Golf Tournament tees off this weekend

PHUKET: The newly upgraded Laguna Phuket Golf Club will host the very first Laguna Phuket Junior Golf Tournament on Sunday.

Working in partnership with British International School, Phuket (BISP), the event is aimed at growing the game of golf with tomorrow’s future champions.

“Both Laguna Phuket Golf Club and BISP are committed to growing the game of golf in Phuket. The benefits of golf for young people go far beyond just the physical aspects of the game. Golf also teaches etiquette, manners, respect, responsibility and even mathematics when scoring,” said Paul Wilson, director of golf at Laguna Phuket Golf Club.

The event will include an 18-hole golf competition around the new Laguna Phuket golf course, player goodie bags, refreshments and a prize-giving presentation – with a lunch buffet and pool party at Angsana Laguna Phuket.

“Our idea with this event was to create a fun environment for junior golfers to participate; we wanted to make it more than just a golf competition. The ambition is to grow the event year on year, working together with BISP,” says Mr Wilson.

The recently launched BISP Golf Academy, which later this year will open its own on-site short game center, is headed by former professional player Oliver Bates from the UK.

“I think there are some really good coaches in Phuket, and good organizations that develop great players”, said Coach Bates.

“Working with the likes of the Laguna Phuket Golf Club, and fantastic events like the Laguna Phuket Junior Golf Tournament, helps us give talented kids the opportunity to get to those higher levels of the sport.”

The overall winners of the tournament will be awarded a special membership at Laguna Phuket Golf Club with unlimited complimentary access to its intriguing new course until the end of the year, plus privileges to enjoy Phuket’s longest swimming pool with kids club and all recreational activities accessible at Angsana Laguna Phuket.

Entry to the event is THB 1,950, with age groups from 6 – 18. Learn more about this event at 076 270 991 or
