Police plan crackdown on parking at schools

PHUKET TOWN: Phuket Town Police have warned parents to obey the traffic laws when dropping off their children when schools reopen next Monday. Pol Lt Col Teeraphol Thipjaroen, Deputy Superintendent of Phuket Police Station, said today that police will concentrate on the problem of cars parked in the yellow-and-white or red-and-white no-parking zones. “During the period before schools open [traffic] police will focus on this kind of offense to show people that we are serious,” he added. Areas expected to have the worst traffic jams next week are roads that are now under construction, which are Wichitsongkhram Rd in front of Surakul Stadium, Krabi Rd, and the northern end of Chao Fa East Rd. Col Teerapol suggested that parents who have to drop children off at school should leave home early in order to avoid the peak period between 7:30 and 8 am. “The police are 100% ready to cope with traffic jams, which will surely happen next week because the schools are reopening. Traffic jams have increased every year,” he added.
