Beautiful Christmas weather, but stay safe in the water, says lifeguard

PHUKET: On another stunning sunny day in Phuket, the head lifeguard at the island’s deadliest beach wishes all a happy holiday and a very safe New Year.

“It is a beautiful day in Kata, Karon and across the island, and it will remain beautiful for the holiday season. There are no rip currents to worry about right now,” Kata-Karon head lifeguard Uten Singsom told the Phuket Gazette today.

Director of the Southern Meteorological Center (West Coast) Phuket Wiwat Intarapanich this morning unofficially dubbed the current weather “Phuket’s Beautiful Days”.

“From Christmas to New Year the temperatures in Phuket will range around 21 to 23 degrees, which is perfect for travelling. Also, the waves won’t be too big along the coast,” Mr Wiwat said.

Even though the sea is at its safest for swimming, Mr Uten asked that swimmers avoid drinking alcohol before getting into the water.

“Doing so is like drunk driving, as you are taking a serious risk with your life,” Mr Uten said.

“It’s our job to save you if you get into trouble in the sea, but please take care of yourself first by not drinking and swimming,” he said.
