Thai man fatally electrocuted trying to steal electrical cable in Khon Kaen
The dead body of a Thai man was found wedged in a small crevice beneath a commercial building on Lang Mueang Road in the Isaan province of Khon Kaen on Monday. According to reports, the man was attempting to steal the electrical cable and was fatally electrocuted during the act.
Residents living near a commercial building notified Mueang Khon Kaen Police Station on Monday, April 3 after they discovered the corpse. Locals informed the police that they had been bothered by a rotten smell for a week. They eventually traced the odour to the gap and were shocked by the discovery of a dead body.
The owner of a fruit juice shop located near the building, Kantanart Wattanasaranon, said…
“Locals and the building’s jurist were searching the gap under the building to trace the bad smell because several animals had died there before. They stumbled upon a leg protruding from a narrow gap underneath the building. They searched inside to make sure that it was a corpse and then reported it to the police.”
According to locals, the man died from an electric shock, as he was found clutching an electric wire in his hand. They speculated that he was likely a thief who had attempted to steal electric cable from the building.
Police officers and the rescue team rushed to investigate the scene. They found a dead Thai man but could not identify him because the body had started to decompose. The team estimated that he had been dead for more than five days.
Officers attempted to retrieve the body from the narrow gap but their efforts were in vain as the bloated corpse was wedged tightly inside. They concluded that some parts of the building would need to be dismantled to extract the body and this would require approval from the building owner.
The situation finally came to a resolution yesterday afternoon when the officers successfully retrieved the body from the gap. The superintendent of Mueang Khon Kean Police Station, Preecha Kengsarikij, reported that the police officers agreed with the locals that the man was a thief. There were no traces of fighting or murder.
The corpse has been sent for an autopsy to identify the victim.
The police reported that they will check the security cameras to determine how the man ended up trapped in the narrow gap under the building.
