Thailand to celebrate 241st anniversary of Bangkok as its capital around Rattanakosin Island

Thailand will celebrate the 241st anniversary of Bangkok serving as its capital around Rattanakosin Island. The Ministry of Culture and more than 30 other agencies are teaming up to hold the event between April 21 and 25, just a week after the Thai New Year of Songkran.

Organisers are hoping to promote tourism and create awareness of the history of Krung Rattanakosin. Religious ceremonies, a “Night Museum,” multimedia light and sound shows, a photo contest, and outdoor film screenings are being planned for the event.

According to the Pattaya Mail, they say the city will be well-prepared for the big event, with public relations on all channels of each agency, plenty of drinking water and travel facilities at hand.

In other event news, an exciting windsurfing and stand-up paddleboarding (SUP) competition started in Pattaya yesterday and goes on until March 26, in a bid to promote tourism and boost the economy. The competition will take place in Jomtien near the Beach Sports Service Center.

The event is divided into two categories, with windsurfing taking place from March 16 to 19, and SUP from March 25 to 26, spanning a total of six days. More than 300 athletes from across the country are expected to participate in the event.

In preparation for the competition, a council meeting was held on Tuesday, chaired by Pattaya Deputy Mayor Krishna Boonsawat. Several event organisers, police, and representatives from city departments attended the meeting. They discussed safety measures for the athletes, and convenience for those involved, The Pattaya News reported.

Deputy Mayor Krishna stressed that the contest aims not only to promote a healthy lifestyle and provide an opportunity for competitors to become future national athletes but also to promote Pattaya as a sports city and boost tourism.
