Thailand braces for heavy rain as Typhoon Kajiki approaches
Flash flood risk grows as storms sweep across Thailand

Today, August 25, the Thai Meteorological Department (TMD) issued a warning for 35 provinces in Thailand, predicting heavy rainfall over 70% of areas, including Bangkok.
The influence of Typhoon Kajiki is anticipated to affect several provinces. Over the next 24 hours, Thailand is expected to experience significant rainfall in parts of the upper north, the upper northeast, the east, and the west coast of the south. Residents in Nan, Nong Khai, Bueng Kan, Sakon Nakhon, Nakhon Phanom, Trat, Ranong, and Phang Nga are advised to be cautious of heavy rainfall, strong winds, and possible flash floods.
The prevailing southwest monsoon over the Andaman Sea, Thailand, and the Gulf of Thailand is intensifying, causing rough sea conditions. In the upper Andaman Sea and the upper Gulf of Thailand, waves are expected to reach 2 to 3 metres, with thunderstorms potentially bringing waves over 3 metres.
The lower Andaman Sea will see waves of around 2 metres, with similar conditions expected during thunderstorms. Mariners are advised to exercise caution, especially in smaller boats, which should avoid venturing out at this time.
Typhoon Kajiki, currently located in the upper South China Sea, is projected to move towards northern Vietnam, weakening into a tropical storm by August 25 and further decreasing to a depression as it moves into Laos by the morning of August 26.
The storm is expected to weaken further into a low-pressure cell over Nan province by the evening of August 26, resulting in heavy to very heavy rain across several regions, particularly in the upper northeast and north, from August 25 to August 27.
