Thai man kills wife on Buriram roadside before suicide attempt

A Thai man consumed by jealousy abandoned his daughter mid-journey and later killed his wife at the roadside in the Isaan province of Buriram before attempting to commit suicide.
Officers from Pakham Police Station were alerted to the discovery of a woman’s body yesterday, April 7, on the roadside in Ban Maidaeng, Hua Krasang, in the Pakham district of Buriram, and rushed to investigate. A yellow sedan with a damaged bumper was found at the scene.
Police identified the deceased as 37 year old Preeya, who sustained three stab wounds to her chest. The car was registered to her husband, 44 year old Wicharn, who was not present at the scene.
Shortly afterwards, officers were notified of a suicide attempt at a house in the same area. The man involved was later confirmed to be Preeya’s husband, Wicharn. He was rushed to the hospital in a critical condition after ingesting an herbicide.
The couple’s 18 year old daughter, Thitika, met with police at the hospital. She explained that her parents both worked in Pattaya, her father as a technician at a hotel and her mother as a cashier at a local company.

On the day of the incident, her parents travelled from Pattaya to Buriram to see her. They picked her up in the yellow car to go out for a meal together.
Thitika revealed that her parents became embroiled in a heated argument during the journey. She suspected the quarrel was fuelled by jealousy, as her father accused her mother of secretly communicating with two men. She also believed there had been previous physical abuse, as her mother had visible bruises on her face.

Unexpectedly, Wicharn pulled over midway and demanded that Thitika get out of the car. When she refused, he forcibly removed her from the vehicle before driving off at speed. Thitika then sought help from residents to return home.

She was later informed of her mother’s death and rushed to the hospital, where she learned that her father was the suspect and was hospitalised following a suicide attempt.
Police suspected Wicharn of stabbing his wife to death before returning to his parents’ home to commit suicide to escape legal consequences.
Thitika stated that she felt she had no choice but to forgive her father for what he had done as he was still her father. According to her, Wicharn remains in a critical condition.
