Thai man attacks friend’s wife’s lover after catching them in bed

Netizens question whether loyalty or secret love is driving the attack

A Thai man beat his friend’s wife’s lover with a broomstick after catching them together on a bed in an abandoned house in Samut Prakan province. He claimed he was seeking revenge on behalf of his friend, though netizens suspected jealousy as the real motive.

Officers from Samrong Nuea Police Station were alerted to the assault at the abandoned house in Soi Wat Dan Samrong 28, Section 4, in Mueang district, Samut Prakan, at around 1pm yesterday, July 2. The 44 year old attacker remained at the scene and surrendered to police.

Rescue workers from the Por Teck Tung Foundation were called to provide first aid to the 52 year old male victim, who suffered a bleeding head wound. He was taken to the hospital for further treatment.

While being transported to the hospital, the victim explained to rescuers that he had been drinking alcohol with a 55 year old woman named On, who later invited him into her bedroom. The victim insisted that no sexual activity had taken place before the attacker arrived and assaulted him.

According to a report by the Facebook news page Mueang Prakan News V2 (ข่าวสารเมืองปราการ v2), the woman is homeless and took over the abandoned house as her residence.

The attacker told police that On was the wife of his friend, Laem. He had gone to meet Laem and, upon finding On and the victim on the bed, became enraged and attacked the man, claiming their behaviour was inappropriate.

On was reported to be heavily intoxicated and was unable to give a statement to the police. Her husband, Laem, was not present at the scene.

However, instead of praising the attacker’s loyalty to his friend, many Thai netizens suspected he was actually romantically involved with On. The comments section was filled with scepticism.

“He’s angry because the other guy got there before him.”

“Do you secretly fancy your friend’s wife? This seems over the top.”

“What would her husband think about this?”

“Your friend wasn’t home. Why did you go there?”

“She needs a better schedule.”

“You (the attacker) shouldn’t have gone into the bedroom either.”

Police did not disclose what legal action would be taken against the attacker, stating only that On would be summoned for questioning once she sobers up.
