Thai man accused of fatally abusing 2 year old boy stepson

Accused stepfather claims stomach punch is just playfighting

A Thai man in Lop Buri province denied accusations of fatally abusing his two year old stepson, insisting he was merely playing with the boy by punching him in the stomach.

The man, identified only as Mai, brought his stepson to Khok Samrong Hospital, claiming the child had lost consciousness for an unknown reason. Tragically, doctors confirmed the boy had already died before arriving. Medical staff discovered severe internal injuries, including a ruptured liver, lungs and spleen.

Following the autopsy, the child’s mother, Prakaikaew, filed a complaint against Mai at Khok Samrong Police Station, saying she was certain he had beaten her son to death.

Prakaikaew explained that she had entered a relationship with Mai just five months earlier. Her son had previously lived with his grandmother, but she wanted to raise him herself. She then arranged for the boy to stay at Mai’s mother’s house, which was located close to their home.

According to Prakaikaew, Mai told her that on Sunday, September 21, he went to his mother’s house to play with the boy. He admitted to punching his stepson in the stomach but claimed it was playful and not harsh.

Prakaikaew, who was away working at the time, said she did not believe Mai’s account and wanted him punished for his cruelty.

Police transferred the boy’s body to Swanpracharak Hospital in Nakhon Sawan province for a detailed autopsy, which concluded the child had died from assault.

Despite continuing to deny the accusations, police said they had gathered sufficient evidence to press charges against Mai. However, officers have not yet clarified the potential legal penalties he may face.

Yesterday, September 22, the boy’s body was returned to his family for a funeral service at Kaew Chatararam Temple.

A similar case occurred in Nonthaburi province in July, when a Thai man confessed to killing his two year old stepson by slamming his head to the ground because the child would not stop crying.
