A former Thai police officer filed a complaint against a female food vendor in the Isaan province of Nakhon Phanom after she allegedly refused to share half of the 6-million-baht reward from a winning lottery ticket, as she had reportedly promised.

The 68 year old food vendor, Boonlom Mikawan, claimed her prize for winning lottery number 807779 on January 17. She publicly shared that her client, a 65 year old former police officer named Thitiphat “Khem” Pattanaphumsate, paid for her food with a lottery ticket instead of cash.

However, the ex-police officer later opposed Boonlom’s claim, stating that he gave her the lottery ticket for free under the agreement that they would split the winning from the given ticket equally.

Thitiphat explained that he purchased nine tickets from a lottery seller for 900 baht. Among the tickets, two bore the number 807779. He then visited Boonlom’s restaurant, where he was a regular customer, and showed the vendor the tickets.

According to Thitiphat, Boonlom expressed interest in ticket number 807779 and asked to buy it from him. He claimed that he refused to sell it but instead gave it to her for free, on the condition that they would share the prize if it won. Thitiphat kept one of the tickets for himself and gave the other to Boonlom.

Thitiphat said that Boonlom agreed to the condition and kept the ticket. Later, he discovered that the ticket number won the first prize, worth 6 million baht. After claiming his own prize, Thitiphat visited Boonlom at her restaurant to collect half of her winnings, 3 million baht, as agreed.

According to Thitiphat, Boonlom then urged him to donate 1 million baht to charity, a proposal to which he agreed. Boonlom allegedly volunteered to handle the donation and promised to share the remaining 2 million baht with him later.

However, Boonlom reportedly failed to honour her promise and disappeared from her restaurant and home shortly afterwards. Consequently, the ex-police officer filed a complaint at That Phanom Police Station, accusing her of embezzlement.

A friend of Boonlom, who was present at the restaurant when Thitiphat dined there, disputed the former officer’s claims in an interview with Amarin TV. The friend insisted that Thitiphat gave the lottery ticket to Boonlom as a gift and did not ask her to share any winnings. Instead, he reportedly asked her to share the wealth.

The police assured both parties that they would conduct a thorough investigation and stated that Boonlom would be summoned for questioning.
