Police apprehended a municipal official after discovering methamphetamine in his vehicle in Samut Prakan, the official admitted ownership of the drugs following a police search. This incident occurred yesterday around 12.30am in Khlong Dan following a public disturbance complaint of street racers in the area.

Officers patrolled the area and encountered a traffic accident. The motorcycle in the accident, driven against traffic, had collided with a public minivan.

The rider, an 18 to 22 year old male, suffered severe injuries. Rescue teams from Ramathibodi Chakri Naruebodindra Hospital in Samut Prakan performed CPR and rushed the injured to the emergency room.

Another male, also estimated to be 18 to 22 years old, was found injured at the scene. First aid was administered, and he was prepared to give a statement to the police.

Upon searching the motorcycle, officers found a firearm and a knife under the seat. During this time, a man and a woman arrived in a pickup truck bearing a municipal emblem from Samut Prakan.

They claimed to be municipal firefighters and acquaintances of the injured, stating that the motorcycle was borrowed from them. They requested to retrieve the motorcycle using the municipal pickup.

However, police grew suspicious and decided to search the pickup truck. This led to the discovery of methamphetamine hidden in a woman’s cosmetic bag. The man admitted the drugs were his.

Consequently, the police detained both individuals and the injured street racer for further questioning at Khlong Dan Police Station where authorities will continue to investigate the matter, reported Khaosod.

In related news, from a recent report released on May 28, the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime disclosed that East and Southeast Asia are currently grappling with an unprecedented influx of methamphetamine and other synthetic drugs.

This surge is largely sourced from the Golden Triangle, an area where the borders of Thailand, Myanmar, and Laos converge. Historically recognised for opium cultivation and heroin production, has been transformed into a hotspot for methamphetamine.
