A man tragically fell into a charcoal kiln and died from severe burns in the Sisaket province of Thailand. His friend expressed deep sorrow, highlighting the deceased’s hard-working nature and dedication to earning a living through various jobs.

At noon yesterday, September 2, Apisit Supho, Deputy Inspector at Mueang Sisaket Police Station, received a report of a fatal accident involving a man falling into a charcoal kiln in the Ban Non Ngam community, Pho subdistrict, Mueang district, Sisaket province. The police quickly went to the scene to investigate.

The incident occurred in the middle of a forested area within the Ban Non Ngam community, a place where locals make charcoal for sale. Upon inspection, police found the deceased inside the kiln, identified as 51 year old Winai, a local.

His body was severely burnt, with only parts of his head and back remaining recognisable. It is estimated that he had been dead for at least two hours before being discovered.

Winai’s friend, Suban, revealed that the deceased had pre-existing health conditions, including high blood pressure and diabetes. Suban and Winai had gone out to cut wood for charcoal burning when Winai previously fainted and had to be taken to the hospital.

Known for his diligence, Winai not only cut wood for charcoal but also took on various odd jobs to earn a living whenever he had free time. Suban expressed his deep sadness over the loss of his friend.

Nongluk, the 58 year old owner of a nearby charcoal kiln, reported that she went to check on her charcoal around noon and noticed a smell similar to grilled meat emanating from Winai’s kiln.

Frightened by the unusual smell, she called for help from other villagers instead of investigating herself. They then discovered that Winai had fallen into the kiln and had been burnt to death.

Initially, officials were unable to retrieve Winai’s body because the kiln was still intensely hot. They coordinated with the Sisaket Municipal Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Department and the Pho Subdistrict Administrative Organisation to bring fire trucks to cool down the kiln, reported KhaoSod.

After reducing the temperature, they managed to remove the body and sent it for a medical examination. The body was subsequently handed over to Winai’s family for religious rites.
