Man arrested after robbing 6 convenience stores in 90 minutes
A 22 year old man was arrested yesterday after robbing six convenience stores in the Thon Buri neighbourhood of Bangkok. The suspect spent only ten minutes in each shop and managed to steal 3,500 baht.
Officers from three police stations, Ratburana, Bukkhalo, and Wat Praya Krai, worked together to track down the suspect, later identified as 22 year old Thawee or Petch. After a six-hour search, police finally caught the suspect at his home in Soi Charoern Krung 103 in the Bang Khor Laem district of Bangkok. His motorcycle, scissors, and the remaining stolen money were confiscated.
According to the police report, Petch began his crime spree at a convenience store near Soi Pracha Uthit 113 at 4am. He demanded money of 500 to 1,000 baht from the staff members but no one would give him any money. So, he fled and moved on to his next target, a store near Soi Pracha Uthit 58/2, where he was once again unsuccessful.
Petch then entered another store near Soi Pracha Uthit 27, where he used scissors to threaten a staff member and managed to steal 300 baht. Petch robbed 1,000 baht from the fourth store, another 1,000 baht from the fifth store, and 1,200 baht from the last location, bringing the total amount to 3,500 baht.
Petch spent only 10 minutes in each store and arrived home at about 5.30am.
Petch admitted to the crime and said that he committed the robberies because he lost his job two months ago. He claimed that he spent the stolen money on powdered milk for his child.
The police did not disclose the charges against Petch but according to his actions, he is expected to be charged with Section 334 of the Criminal Law, which states that whoever takes the property of another person shall be punished with imprisonment of up to three years and a fine of up to 6,000 baht.
