A Japanese businessman yesterday lost his life in a car crash on a motorway in Chon Buri province while two other Thai people were severely injured.

Highway Police officers and rescuers from the Dham Rassamee Maneerat Foundation rushed to the motorway bridge in the Don Hua Lor sub-district of Chon Buri to investigate the accident at 6am yesterday, August 25. Three cars involved in the crash were found damaged: a Mitsubishi Xpander SUV, a green Mercedes Benz saloon, and a bronze Toyota saloon.

The 50 year old Japanese victim, Shintaro Tsuda, was trapped in the damaged SUV. Rescuers removed him from the vehicle and administered CPR but they were unable to save him. A woman in the SUV, whose nationality was not disclosed, was injured.

Sanook reported that Shintaro was the owner of Nippon Steel Welding, a company in the Eastern Seaboard Industrial Estate in Rayong province.

Officers then found an injured Thai man, 38 year old Naphu, in the green Mercedes Benz saloon, which had overturned near the SUV. Another injured driver, 41 year old Noppachai Yansing-or, was in a damaged bronze Toyota saloon. Both were rushed to hospital but their conditions have not been updated.

A witness told police that Naphu was driving his green Mercedes Benz saloon at high speed before losing control and crashing into a traffic barrier, causing the car to overturn.

Shintaro’s car, which was following behind, could not stop in time and crashed into the Mercedes Benz. The impact of the crash caused the bronze Toyota saloon to crash.

The security camera footage of the accident was not made public and the police have not revealed any further legal steps being taken in this case.

In a related report, a Thai man driving his saloon at high speed crashed into two vehicles in front of him and later fell off a bridge in Nonthaburi province, near Bangkok, on May 26. Fortunately, the saloon driver suffered only minor injuries from the accident.

A similar incident was reported at the beginning of August, when a Laotian driver, driving at high speed, ignored a traffic light and crashed into the saloon of a Thai family in Nakhon Phanom, a province in Isaan. A pregnant Thai woman and her unborn child lost their lives at the scene.
