A garbage truck skidded on a slippery road and crashed into a village sign and an electric pole, causing the death of a worker who fell from the truck and leaving the driver severely injured.

A tragic accident occurred when a municipal garbage truck lost control on a wet road and collided with a village sign and an electric pole, resulting in the death of a garbage collector and severe injuries to the driver. The incident took place yesterday in Buriram Province, near Ban Mueang Nuea in Krasang Subdistrict.

The accident involved an orange six-wheeled garbage truck from Lam Plai Mat Subdistrict Municipality. The truck was found on the opposite side of the road with significant damage to its front and left door. Nearby, a broken village sign and a high-voltage electric pole split in half were discovered.

Police identified the deceased as a garbage collector who was stationed at the back of the truck. It is believed that he was thrown from the vehicle upon impact, leading to his immediate death on the road. The driver, who was severely injured, was transported to Buriram Hospital before police arrived at the scene.

According to the Deputy Permanent Secretary of Lam Plai Mat Subdistrict Municipality, Komen Saram, the garbage truck typically makes its rounds around 3am, collecting waste and then transporting it to the landfill in Buriram City by 5am. Continuous rainfall from the previous night until the early morning likely made the road slippery, causing the heavy truck to lose control, crash into the village sign, and hit the electric pole, said Komen.

“The rain made the road slippery. Combined with the weight of the truck, it led to the vehicle losing control and crashing.”

The impact caused the garbage collector to fall from the truck and die, while the driver sustained severe injuries and is currently being treated at Buriram Hospital. The police have informed senior officials about the incident, reported Khaosod.
