Foreign man to face charges for drifting car on mountain road

Police plan to summon a foreign man for drifting his luxury car on Phu Thap Buek mountain in the northern province of Phetchabun after a video of the dangerous driving went viral on the TikTok application.
The Thai TikToker, @lolono.re, shared the video of the car drifting yesterday, April 24, with a caption that read, “Brilliant! #Phetchabun #PhuThapBuek.” The video sparked controversy among netizens, prompting the user to delete the clip shortly thereafter.
However, the video was reshared by multiple news agencies and Facebook pages. In the footage, the driver is seen drifting his white BMW Z4 around a curve on the mountain road.
The TikTok user responded to comments under the video, stating that the driver of the luxury car was a foreign man.
In addition to the TikToker, another person in a blue shirt was seen standing near the curve, filming the car. This suggests that the foreign driver deliberately drifted the vehicle for video content.

Netizens were divided in their opinions. Some expressed concern that the foreign driver’s behaviour posed a danger to other motorists. Others argued that, as the road appeared empty, the drifting did not pose a significant risk.

Officers from Lomkao Police Station told ThaiRath that they are investigating the case following the viral video. The foreign motorist allegedly violated multiple laws, including exceeding the speed limit and driving recklessly to gain attention on social media, indicating a premeditated act of filming.
Police are currently gathering evidence and will seek the identity of the foreign driver and the vehicle’s owner from the Department of Land Transport. Officers did not clarify the potential penalties the foreign national may face.

A similar incident occurred in Phuket in March, when two Nigerian nationals used a public road as a drift track. They were filmed drifting a white sedan in the middle of several intersections.
During their arrest, they attempted to flee from police but failed after turning into a dead-end alley. The pair were believed to have faced light punishment under the Land Traffic Act, which stipulates a fine of only 400 to 1,000 baht.
