Ex-security guard found dead in abandoned Nonthaburi building

The body of a former security guard was discovered in a dilapidated building amidst piles of rubbish. A friend, unable to reach him by phone, found the decomposed body after detecting a foul odour.
Officers from the Rattanathibet Police Station in Nonthaburi, along with staff from the Ruamkatanyu Foundation, responded to a report at 10.30am yesterday, March 18, of a man found dead for several days in an abandoned building on Tiwanon 20 Alley, Tiwanon Road, Bang Kraso, Mueang Nonthaburi district.
A forensic doctor from the Institute of Forensic Science was also called to the scene. The location was a five-storey deserted building.
On the ground floor, officers found the body of 56 year old Juan (surname withheld), a former security guard from Nakhon Sawan province, lying in a mosquito net surrounded by trash. The body had been there for several days and was beginning to decompose, emitting a strong odour.
Police determined that the body could not be removed through regular means and opted to open the rolling door at the front of the building for extraction.
Initial investigations found no signs of assault, and it was estimated that Juan had been dead for approximately two to three days.
A 53 year old acquaintance, Suepphong (surname withheld), explained that a neighbour reported a foul smell while passing by.
Suepphong attempted to call Juan but received no response, prompting him to visit the building. Upon arrival, he detected the smell and discovered Juan’s body in his room.
Juan had been living in the abandoned building for about 15 years. Previously, he had moved to the area to care for his mother at the Chest Disease Institute.
Following his mother’s death, he began working as a security guard at the institute. Initially, he rented accommodation but later moved to the abandoned building after financial difficulties.
Juan’s health deteriorated, and he had been unemployed for over a year before his passing, reported KhaoSod.
Police documented the scene and condition of the body, suspecting a pre-existing medical condition as the cause of death.
They plan to inform relatives of the deceased and will hand over the body to the Ruamkatanyu Foundation for transfer to the Institute of Forensic Science for autopsy.
