An elderly Thai man’s chest x-ray displaying 42 bullets lodged in his lung for 40 years dramatically reveals his survival from a near-fatal error during the Vietnam War.

The x-ray, uploaded to TikTok by user @chanakan355 showcases the shrapnel-filled lungs of a man who was mistakenly shot and has lived with the remnants of the war inside him for four decades.

The video clip in question shows the chest x-ray of the elderly man, with the left side of his chest filled with small white spots, each representing a bullet that has not been surgically removed.

“This is an x-ray film. Full of bullets, sitting right here. Real bullets that have been through the Vietnam War. Approximately 42 of them. If they were war weapons, they would have been removed. But these are just small bullets.”

The video, set to a background sound, adds a layer of poignancy to the man’s remarkable tale of survival. Despite the grave nature of his injuries, the man appears in the clip with a smile, a testament to his resilience and the human spirit’s capacity to endure against all odds. The clip also serves as a startling reminder of the long-term impacts of warfare on individuals.

The man’s ordeal raises questions about the advancements in medical technology and the decisions made by those affected by war. The decision to leave the bullets embedded in his lung might have been influenced by various factors, including the man’s health at the time, the medical expertise available, and the potential risks of surgery, reported KhaoSod.

Such instances of wartime injuries surfacing many years later are not uncommon among veterans. However, the visual proof provided by the x-ray film serves as a stark reminder of the physical costs of war.

In related news, Thailand and Vietnam have forged a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, a relationship focusing on meeting bilateral trade objectives, implementing sustainable development plans, strengthening political-diplomatic and defence security collaboration, and enhancing benefits in people-to-people areas.
