9 year old Thai boy killed after picking up bomb on Phichit road

A nine year old Thai boy lost his life after picking up a bomb on a road in the Isaan province of Phichit. More bombs were later found in the area.
The fatal explosion occurred on March 23 but only gained public attention yesterday, April 2, after a post from the Facebook page ตลาดล่างอัพเกรด. The page shared a picture of the bomb with a caption that read:
“A nine year old boy in Phichit was walking along a public road when he found a mysterious object. Being very young, he did not realise the danger. He picked it up, and it exploded. He lost his life in the incident. Five more bombs were found nearby. The question is, who left these bombs on the road? My condolences to the family.”
The explosion took place on a road in the Wang Sai Phun district of Phichit. A local took to his personal Facebook account to seek justice for the boy, stating that no investigation or further developments had been reported following his death. The incident was soon forgotten.
According to the district administration office, three bombs already exploded before the fatal incident on March 23.
The one the boy picked up was the fourth found in the area, and one more bomb was discovered after his death. The Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team successfully disposed of the latest device.

At present, neither the local police nor any other relevant government department has provided an update on the investigation. The individual responsible for leaving these deadly devices on the public road has yet to be identified.

A similar discovery of a bomb was reported in January in the Isaan province of Udon Thani. In that case, a pet dog named Latte brought a homemade bomb to a four year old boy, mistaking it for a ball and attempting to play fetch.

Fortunately, the young boy, curious about the object, took it to his father to ask what it was. The father immediately recognised the danger and called the EOD team, who safely disposed of it in time. It was fortunate that the boy did not throw the bomb, preventing any injuries.
