Parcel farce: Thai woman’s bomb scare turns out to be ex-plosive gift

A Thai woman called officers from the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) unit to investigate a suspicious parcel at her home in the northern province of Nan, only to discover that the item inside was not a bomb but a gift from an ex-boyfriend.
The woman contacted EOD officials at her home in the Du Tai sub-district of Nan after finding a mysterious parcel placed outside her residence.
The parcel displayed only her address, with no information about the sender. Suspecting it might be a bomb, she requested an investigation.
EOD officials told Chiang Mai News that the parcel was too light to contain a bomb. Accordingly, they decided to open it carefully by hand.
Inside, they found only a pack of crispy fish and a letter. According to the message in the letter, the parcel had been sent by the woman’s ex-boyfriend, who wished to rekindle their relationship. He sent the deep-fried fish as a gift in the hope of winning her back.
Both the woman and her neighbours were relieved. However, it was not revealed whether she was considering getting back together with her former partner.

Another unexpected incident involving a bomb was reported in the Isaan province of Udon Thani in January. In this case, EOD officers were called to dispose of a real bomb, which had been discovered by a pet dog, a Labrador and Golden Retriever mix named Latte.

Latte mistook the bomb for a toy and brought it to her young owner, hoping to play fetch.
Fortunately, the child became suspicious and refrained from throwing it. He instead showed the item to his father, leading to its safe disposal.

A similar false alarm occurred in October last year when a suspicious suitcase was found outside the office of the iCon Group company.
At the time, the company was under scrutiny for fraud, raising concerns that the suitcase might contain a bomb intended to harm key company figures.
The items inside the suitcase initially appeared to be an explosive device but were later confirmed to be a fake bomb. It had been used as a prop in an advertisement shoot for the company and was mistakenly discarded by a cleaner.
