More than 10.5 million people signed up for the eagerly anticipated digital wallet scheme within the first six hours of its registration opening yesterday. This number surpassed initial expectations, according to Deputy Finance Minister Julapun Amornvivat. However, he also clarified that not all who registered will qualify for the benefits, as eligibility will be determined after a review period, with results to be communicated to applicants by September 22.

The registration period will remain open 24/7 until September 15. Concerns arose regarding technical difficulties faced by users but Julapun explained that these issues were not due to system failures. Instead, they were caused by two main factors: users not updating the Tang Rat app and certain smartphone models experiencing compatibility issues.

Julapun recommended that affected users delete and reinstall the app to resolve these problems. He assured that the registration process is now proceeding smoothly.

“The initial response has been overwhelming, and we are working hard to ensure that everyone eligible can benefit from this programme.”

The digital wallet scheme aims to provide financial relief to eligible citizens, enhancing their purchasing power and stimulating the local economy. The high volume of early registrations reflects the scheme’s popularity and the pressing need for financial assistance among the population.

Julapun emphasised that the review process will be thorough to ensure that the benefits reach those who genuinely qualify. This meticulous approach is intended to maintain the integrity of the programme and prevent any misuse of funds.

“We want to make sure that the benefits are distributed fairly and to those who truly need them.”

To address the technical issues, the government has deployed additional resources to assist users in updating the app and resolving compatibility problems. This support aims to ensure a seamless registration experience for all applicants.

Economic recovery

The government has also set up a dedicated helpline and online support system to assist users facing difficulties during the registration process. This initiative is part of the broader effort to make the programme accessible to as many eligible citizens as possible.

The digital wallet scheme is a crucial part of the government’s economic recovery plan, designed to boost consumer spending and support local businesses. The funds provided through the programme can be used for a variety of essential purchases, thereby injecting much-needed liquidity into the economy, reported Pattaya News.

“We appreciate the patience and cooperation of all applicants as we work through the registration and review process.”
