A Thai woman yesterday intervened in a British man’s suicide attempt at Suvarnabhumi International Airport in Bangkok, which ultimately led to a successful rescue.

Officers from Suvarnabhumi Airport Police Station reported that the rescue operation began at around 8pm, yesterday, February 23. They were alerted to investigate a foreign man who was sitting on the barrier rail of a bridge near the passenger terminal.

Upon arrival at the scene, officers found the foreigner, later identified as Bradley Arron Archambie, a 30 year old British national, sitting on the barrier in distress.

A Thai woman then volunteered to persuade Archambie to abandon his suicidal intentions. Officers allowed her to communicate with him to ease his anxiety and help him relax.

Police also cleared all uninvolved individuals from the area to prevent any danger to both the British man and others. Vehicles were also barred from passing through the area during the operation.

Officers decided to approach Archambie in a personal car belonging to one of the officers, rather than using police vehicles. While the woman was speaking with the potential suicide victim, officers drove the car close to him and immediately pulled him down from the barrier rail.

A similar rescue operation was reported last month, in January, when police officers intervened in the suicide attempt of a young Thai woman on Pattaya’s Walking Street.

The woman had previously attempted suicide by consuming a dangerous quantity of sedative pills but was saved in time. Her sister later revealed to the media that depression was the motive behind her suicide attempt.
