Send in the drones – Bangkok Governor – Air pollution – VIDEO

Authorities in Bangkok launched 50 drones yesterday in an attempt to combat the ongoing air pollution that has gained international attention.

The drones were equipped with sprinklers and water was sprayed to lower the PM2.5 particles in the atmosphere. The water was laced with molasses (a gooey, surgery syrup) help capture the fine particles of pollution and bring them to the ground (well, that’s the theory anyway).

The Bangkok Governor say the drones are being used to lower the pollution which has been covering Bangkok’s skyline since December. The Governor has been given the responsibility to put in place measures to mitigate the pollution problem and, yesterday, called on experts to provide him with advice.

When challenged about the possible success the drones would have in reducing the smog, the Governor was tricky in his response saying that “at least he was trying something”.

The drones have come from a flying club in Nakhon Ratchasima. Each drone is equipped with around 10 liters of water to spray into the Bangkok skies.

Meanwhile the Thai PM has threatened to introduce odd/even number plate driving restrictions.
