Police raided a well-known condominium in the Lat Phrao area, arresting a Chinese-led gang operating an online gambling site for two months.

The operation seized numerous items and uncovered cash flow amounting to millions of baht. The suspects confessed to working as website administrators, earning a monthly salary of 50,000 baht.

Today, March 13, Police Major General Jesada Suaysom, Commander of Metropolitan Police Division 2, and Police Colonel Phonthep Chalermkiat, Superintendent of Sutthisan Police Station, directed an investigation team. This included officers from the Tourist Police and Immigration Police, who searched a condominium on Ladprao 18 Alley, Chatuchak district, Bangkok.

The raid followed reports suggesting the premises were used for illegal online gambling activities by foreign nationals residing there.

During the raid, officers detained a Chinese man and three Vietnamese nationals. The seizure included eight laptop computers, tablets, six mobile phones, and Ledger Nano X hardware wallets, known for their high-security digital currency storage capabilities.

Investigators discovered gambling-related data on the computers, which linked to foreign gambling websites in Chinese. The content was designed to entice users to participate in gambling activities.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the four suspects acted as administrators, using their residence in Thailand as a base for managing the online gambling site. Their salaries, paid in Chinese yuan, equated to millions of baht in Thai currency.

The suspects reportedly arrived in Thailand two months ago, hired by Chinese nationals to manage the gambling website, receiving 50,000 baht (US$1,480) monthly. The digital currency stored in the hardware wallets, identified as USDT, remains unverified in terms of quantity.

All electronic devices and computers confiscated during the operation will be handed over to the Technology Crime Suppression Division for further investigation to track additional parties involved in the gambling operation.

Police have charged the four suspects with organising or enticing gambling through electronic media without permission, reported KhaoSod.

Further checks revealed that the suspects failed to report a change of residence within 24 hours as required by the Immigration Act. The Immigration Police have fined them accordingly before their transfer to the Criminal Court for custody proceedings.
