4th set of turtle eggs found on Miang Island, Similan National Park
More than 106 turtle eggs have been found on Nui Beach, Miang Island in the Similan National Park. This is the 4th time on Miang Island and the 2nd time at Nui Beach that turtles have chosen to lay their eggs there.
Today, the Chief of Mo Koh Similan National Park in Kuraburi District, Ruamsin Manajongprasert, said that the forest specialist and the team of Miang Island National Park was surveying the island last night (April 3) and found tracks from turtles from the sea to the upper beach. They followed the tracks and found the mother, a green sea turtle digging a hole to lay eggs. The team monitored the mother turtle from 11.20 pm until 11.35 pm when she buried all her eggs.
The green sea turtle is 110 cm. long and 74 cm. wide. This morning the officers went back to the eggs and moved all 106 eggs to a safe place as the area where the eggs were located was on a walkway to the beach and to avoid other animals that might harm the eggs.
The area where the mother turtle chose this time is just next to the place where another set of turtle eggs were laid on March 13. The eggs from March 13 haven’t hatched yet and are expected to hatch within approximately 30 days from now.
