Don’t forget to extend your visa! Thai Immigration warns about fines for late applicants

Caitlin Ashworth

Still need to extend your visa? You have until Halloween, October 31. With the visa amnesty deadline approaching, Thai Immigration Bureau is reminding foreigners to get their visa in order by the end of this month. Late applicants will be fined, they say.

No matter when the visa is extended, as long as it’s before the deadline, it will go into effect on November 1 and allow a 60 day stay. The immigration bureau says foreigners should file an application with their local immigration office.

Since the recent amnesty period was put in place a few days after the initial September 26 deadline, those who paid 1,900 baht for 30 day visa extensions last month are now allowed to stay until November 30, but they need to go to immigration to get a stamp with the new expiration date.

The amnesty was first put in place in April due to travel restrictions and the global spread of the coronavirus. The grace period was set to end in July, then extended to late-September, and then extended again after many were unable to leave the country or get their visa in order before the deadline.

Why an Australian passport is pictured in the article, I have no idea. In any case, I am glad for the tourists who are there at the moment, that they can remain for another period, It isn’t their fault that they are still there. They are spending money while they are there and that would be of some comfort to the ordinary Thai people.

      Why isn’t it their fault?

You book a ticket, go to the airport, get on a plane and leave, they can do it anytime they like as I did in August after being there for 7 months on a free extended visa.

Spending peanuts more like. This myth about ‘I’m supporting the economy’ needs to stop. You arent.

I agree, they all talk big as though they are supporting the country with their tiny retirement pensions.

Most of them are there because they can not afford to live in the West.

Most of the people in our building in Bangkok can live anywhere in the world, their own million dollar condos in Bangkok and cannot come back to Thailand. Who would want to buy in Thailand now, when your investment does not give you any rights.

I called 1178 yesterday, Officer said that I have to Visit Immigration Office. I’ve been there just now. Nobody knows about it and they said that I don’t need to come.
And plus, I felt like prisoner in there. offices act in full of arrogant…

By the way, who followed the recommend before Sept 26. They get only one month visa and … who did not follow the expats get two month… what a strange…

Thank God. Immi has known it long enough and certainly has enough staff available to keep the waiting times outside short. After all, the rainy season is not over yet.
