Motorcycle-car crash on Khlong Khlung Bridge leaves one dead
A tragic accident occurred yesterday when a motorcycle collided with a car on the Khlong Khlung Bridge over the Ping River in Kamphaeng Phet province, resulting in one death and two severe injuries. The incident prompted a response from the police and rescue services.
Police Lieutenant Chatchanon Sanitmak, attached to Khlong Khlung Police Station, yesterday, January 15, reported the accident involving a silver Honda Accord and multiple motorcycles. The car, with registration plate กบ 5019 from Kamphaeng Phet, was found blocking the bridge, its front severely damaged.
Nearby was a blue-black Honda Wave motorcycle with a sidecar, registered as 1 กจ 7619, belonging to a couple selling grilled chicken. The couple, 35 year old Paramat and 31 year old Supawan, sustained serious injuries and were taken to Khlong Khlung Hospital by rescue personnel.
Additionally, a red-white Honda Wave motorcycle registered as 1 กฒ 2585, was found extensively damaged. The driver, 35 year old Thawatchai, known as Mueat, was found deceased at the bridge’s edge. He was wearing a long-sleeved shirt and trousers, with visible injuries and fractures.
Thawatchai’s 54 year old mother, Bunpeng, arrived at the scene, overwhelmed with grief. She lamented her son’s decision to leave the house at night despite her warnings.
Overcome with emotion, she fainted but was assisted by rescue personnel who prevented her from approaching the body. Police coordinated with the hospital’s on-call doctor for a preliminary examination before sending the body for a detailed autopsy to determine the cause of death.
Traffic was temporarily halted on both sides of the bridge to allow for clearing of debris and removal of the vehicles involved. The driver of the car, who sustained minor injuries, was taken to Khlong Khlung Police Station for questioning, reported KhaoSod.
The accident was reportedly caused when Thawatchai attempted to overtake the chicken-selling motorcycle but collided head-on with the oncoming car, leading to the fatal crash.
