Tourism leaders unite in Thailand to mark shared founding date of Rome and Bangkok

This week, the Thai-Italian Chamber of Commerce (TICC), in collaboration with the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT), united professionals from across the tourism and hospitality sectors to host the Foundation of Rome & Bangkok – Grand Celebration Event on Monday, April 21. The event took place at Siri Sala Private Thai Villa in Bangkok Noi, one of the filming locations for the hugely popular third season of The White Lotus.

The event marked the shared founding date of Rome and Bangkok (April 21, 753 BC and 1782 AD, respectively), highlighting a unique historical alignment between the two capital cities.

The occasion served as a platform to reinforce cultural and economic ties between Thailand and Italy, with guests including destination management companies, hoteliers, travel agencies, institutional representatives, media, and influencers.

The event opened with a moment of silence to honour the late Pope Francis, who passed away on Monday, April 21. The night’s programme also featured a panel discussion titled Bridging Cultures Through Tourism – Thailand & Italy in Focus, which featured four expert speakers and explored opportunities for cooperation between the two countries.
