Forensic experts at the scene discovered 19 bullet casings from an M16, which were determined to have been fired from an AK-102 assault rifle. This firearm has a grim history, being linked to 23 other violent incidents in Rueso and Tak Bai districts.

In February, the same rifle was involved in the deadly shooting of two defence volunteers, Amorn Bootthongboon and Sonthaya Chaisit, who were protecting local teachers. This connection has intensified the need to apprehend those responsible.

Police suspect the gunmen had insider information about Wichet’s location, enabling them to swiftly invade the factory and execute their plan. Despite the presence of three other individuals in the room, they were unharmed during the attack.

A local security source suggests that the murder might be linked to the recent capture of Sugifree Mueraheng, an insurgent group member. Sugifree allegedly revealed to officials that his group had a centralised cache of weapons, frequently relocated to avoid detection, reported Bangkok Post.

Police are exploring four potential motives behind Wichet’s assassination, according to an insider familiar with the case. The motives under consideration include local political rivalries, business conflicts, personal grievances, and broader security concerns.
